It really all started around 50 years ago on Wednesday’s in Northern Illinois. Wednesdays was mom’s day off and on a lot of Wednesdays mom would take us to the popcorn stand in Dekalb, Il. Now get a visual; this place was really no more than a “ticket booth looking building” attached to the outside of a main building, it was maybe 6 ft by 4 ft. But I am here to tell you some of the best plain white salted popcorn came out of that little building. I would always tell mom someday I want to have a “popcorn stand”. My next connection to a “popcorn stand” came about 20 years later when I would visit my sister and there was a “popcorn stand” in a recreational area by a river near her home, once again all they served was white salted popcorn in large brown paper bags like the largest size you used to get your groceries bagged in and it was only open 3 months out of the year. When we went to get popcorn one day I asked why aren’t you open all the time and they said because the 3 summer months of the year is all it takes. We do what we want the rest of the year. I have never forgotten that reply. Advance 20 more years and I am regularly flying from Texas to Chicago O’Hare Airport to visit family and I discover some wonderful “Gourmet Popcorn” sold at the airport and I am really hooked. Fast forward to 2017 and my husband Randy and I are discussing the possibility of me retiring from full time employment in 2018. We had many discussions about what we could do to make our fun money, so I could leave full time employment and after many hours of discussion, research and 2 days of popcorn school, yes there is such a thing; my awesome husband Randy came out of retirement for the 2nd time to help me make a lifelong dream come true and to make a little “fun money”. Thank you Honey!!
During one of those discussions he said what are you going to call this “popcorn stand” and it literally just popped out – Whatever Pops Up – he started laughing and I said no really – Whatever Pops Up. I thought with our variety of flavor choices you never know what might be popping up, Dill Pickle, Kettle, Southwest Jalapeño, White Cheddar, Extra Buttery and many more. So, look for our Bright Orange Trailer at fairs, festivals, weddings, sporting events and any place people might want some gourmet popcorn. Another thing we sell is bulk popcorn for you to serve at your own events or businesses. Also, don’t hesitate to call us and talk about fundraising for your school or organizations. We also do made-to-order gift baskets, and will be doing popcorn tins soon as the holidays are fast approaching so call us at (979) 251-1165 to order, set up a date for us to come out to your event or just to ask questions. Randy the popcorn chef and Leroy the marketer/sales/customer service rep look forward to hearing from you.
